Health equity, health literacy, and health insurance choice in Switzerland
The project investigates barriers of access to care related to financial resources and “health insurance literacy” in Switzerland.
Health related costs represents a growing proportion of household budgets and more than 10% of the population reports forgoing healthcare for fincancial reasons. The project is built in three parts.
- The first part investigates the association between avoidable hospitalisations and healthcare financing by households, with a macro approach.
- The second part investigates how health status and health expenses are associated with insurance choice and socioeconomic status with a micro approach and cohort data.
- The third part investigates health literacy and "health insurance literacy" with insights from behavioural economics.
