Intergenerational Education Persistence: Evidence from Molecular Genetic Data
This paper uses molecular genetic data from the ALSPAC study to estimate how much of the link between parents’ education and their children’s academic performance is due to genetic factors. Using polygenic indices and instrumental variable methods, the authors find that genetic factors explain 41–45% of this association, providing a novel complement to traditional twin- and adoption studies.
